At Listers Schoolwear, keeping children comfortable, safe, and ready for learning is at the heart of what we do.That’s why we’re making an important change: we’re removing Teflon coatings from all our clothing.

Why are we doing this?

Teflon is often made using a type of chemical called PFAS, sometimes called “forever chemicals” because they stay in the environment for a very long time.
Recent research and global health advice suggest these chemicals may not be the best choice for people or the planet. They can build up in nature, and we believe it’s better to take them out now.

In short: we don’t want anything on our uniforms that we wouldn’t want near our own children.

What will replace it?

We’ve worked hard to find new, safe, PFAS-free finishes that still give our schoolwear the same benefits you rely on:

Stain resistance for everyday spills

Durability for daily wear and tear

Easy care for busy families

Our Promise to Parents

No compromise on quality – our uniforms will still look smart and last the school year.

Kinder to the environment – reducing chemicals that can harm nature.

Safer for children – because their wellbeing comes first.

When will this happen?

The change is already underway. By next year all our products will be completely PFAS-free.

Want to know more?

Teflon coatings are often made from PFAS – a family of chemicals sometimes called “forever chemicals” because they don’t break down in the environment and can build up in our bodies over time.

While PTFE (the main ingredient in Teflon) is generally stable in normal use, studies have shown that the manufacturing and breakdown of PFAS chemicals can have serious impacts:

Environmental persistence: PFAS stay in soil and water for decades.

Potential health concerns: Exposure to certain PFAS has been linked to hormone disruption, immune changes, and other health risks.

Global action: Countries around the world, including the UK and EU members, are moving to restrict or ban PFAS in textiles.

We believe that protecting our customers and our planet means taking action now – not waiting until regulations force change.

Our Timeline

Already underway: New product lines are being developed without any Teflon/PFAS coatings.

By 2026: All products will be 100% PFAS-free.
